Local anaesthesia
Certain procedures require the administration of local anaesthesia to provide pain relief. Some include the appplication of topical anaesthetic to the gums prior to the administration of local anaesthetic. As we are aware that children tend to be taste sensitive, we offer a variety of flavour options which mask the bitter tasting flavour of the gel thus enhancing the experience.
At our practice, we also often use the Wand™ which is a computerised delivery system for providing safe and comfortable localised anaesthesia. Using the Wand™ is especially beneficial in young children as the injection is relatively pain free and highly localised. The duration of a “numb” sensation is shorter in comparison to delivering local anaesthetic with a syringe. Furthermore, our anxious teenagers and those who are “needle-phobic” prefer the Wand™.
